Introducing my sister; okay she’s not real sister but we share the same surname, Clara Tshepiso Moloi - she my new and latest dopest emcee discovery. We still in #WomensMonth right? #LHHW
Clara-T (born Clara Tshepiso Moloi, 27 March 1994) is a Hip-Hop artist based in KwaZulu- Natal, Durban. Clara-T„s music can be defined as the quintessence of the True School of Hip-Hop blending together contemporary sounds with the combined lyricism of the Old and New School.
Clara-T began writing rhymes in high school at 15. Her first rhyme was born out of an assignment she had been given at school. The experience of delivering the rap was what set in motion her love for Hip-Hop and writing. She continued writing and later performed again at open mic sessions. In the year 2011, at 17, Clara-T was introduced to members of a crew called RandHustle, a local Rap crew from Sydenham Heights. She became a member of the group that year and had her first taste of stepping into a booth to record a song with the crew. She then featured on the crew‟s mixtape and made her debut into the Hip-Hop community of Durban.
Home life for Clara-T is normal, living with both mother and father and her two elder brothers. Growing up with older brothers, the music she listened to was largely influenced by what her brothers were into at whatever given time. Hip-Hop, Neo-soul, Rn’B and Deep House were some of the genres Clara-T was exposed to and is influenced by.
In 2013, Clara-T started putting work into her first project as an independent artist. The project is an eight track EP titled „Cee The Clara-T‟ which was released online for download on the 13th September 2013.
The 1st single off the EP titled „100‟ http://www.hulkshare.com/magicm/clara-t-100 , released the on 9th August 2013, was well received by many for Clara-T‟s delivery and her ability to hold her own when it comes to flow.
Cee The Clara-T is a mixture of jazzy and soulful songs that are accompanied by harder hitting club tracks for a blend of the different sounds of Hip-Hop. Upon the online release of the EP, Clara-T has been acclaimed by some as “refreshing”, “full of potential” and “dope and still humble”.
She later released an accapella rap titled „Bars of Clara-T‟, (Link: http://www.hulkshare.com/magicm/clara- t-bars-of-clara-t ) which starts with her saying “Yeah, I just gotta take out my bubblegum first…” before she begins rapping. She brings out her playfulness in some of her songs by adding short remarks about things such as eating lollipops or by making references to sweets. Her style is reflective of her personality, environment and emotions. Clara-T‟s endeavour is to draw deep from her unique viewpoint and personal perspective.
The 19-year-old is an eager student of the Art of Hip-Hop and is yet to work on a full length project with Canndance Music that illustrates this. Clara-T continues to hone her lyrical proficiency and seeks to contribute flavour and value to the Hip-Hop community and industry of the world, especially of South Africa.
